Is it possible for me to participate?
Not every clinical trial is appropriate for every patient. A trial may be safe for one patient to participate in but not for another. Each protocol has strict standards that doctors must follow when deciding who can participate in a research trial. These are known as eligibility criteria. This prevents patients from receiving potentially harmful treatment. The following information is included in the eligibility criteria:
You and your general well-being:
- Gender and age
- Medical test results
- Medications you are taking
- Any any health issues
If you have found a clinical trial that you think you want to join, talk to your doctor to see if you are eligible to take part.
Why should I join?
Participating in a clinical study is a highly personal decision for you and your family. Many volunteers contribute to the discovery of potential novel remedies for a certain ailment. Others do it to facilitate progress in modern medicine for future generations. Whatever your motive, the primary focus of any study is always your health and safety.
Other motivations for participation
- You could benefit from new or improved investigational medications that are not currently available to the general population.
- Any medical exams, tests, and/or procedures you get during the study are free of charge.
- Healthcare providers may give you additional care.
- You may also get compensated financially for your time and travel.
